In today’s Yippee for Yana episode, I’m excited to share a playful and lighthearted encouragement card featuring the adorable and oh-so-witty Oh Shiitake stamp set designed by Cathy Zielske. The moment I saw this set, I couldn’t help but smile – these mushrooms are full of personality, and the sentiments are just the right kind of cheeky.

This stamp set is such a joy to use! It comes with coordinating dies and stencils, which makes it super versatile. Whether you enjoy traditional coloring or prefer ink blending, you’ll love how easy it is to bring these mushrooms to life.

Two Techniques, One Set
I decided to try both coloring and ink blending – you can see both in the photo below. Which one do you prefer?
Copic Coloring
I stamped the images on Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink – a go-to choice for alcohol marker coloring. The caps are colored in rich, vibrant reds (R39, R27, R24), while the stems are shaded using warm gray tones (W5, W3, W1). For the white speckles, I used Splatter White from Spellbinders with a fine brush. Just a tip: let the white ink dry completely before die-cutting to avoid smudges.
Ink Blending with Stencils
If you prefer a softer, blended look, the coordinating stencils are amazing! I used Simon Says Stamp Positively Saturated Inks in Cranberry, Brick, and Cabernet for the caps, and Fawn and Cozy for the stems. My Simon Tacky Mat came in handy for holding everything in place while blending, and I added finishing touches to the mushrooms with a white Gelly Roll pen to highlight the speckles.
Card Assembly
Once all my mushrooms were ready, I arranged them in a simple grid layout – one of my favorite go-to formats! The background panel measures 3.75″ x 5″ and is popped up with foam for dimension. For the sentiment, I combined “Shiitake happens” with “Hang in there” and “Things will get better” – the perfect pick-me-up message.
Everything was mounted on a Schoolhouse Red card base, and I finished it off with a few sparkly sequins from the Cottontail mix for a bit of shine (and to cover a small ink mishap—always keeping it real!).
