Hello and welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video! Today, we’re talking about a simple yet visually striking card-making technique – grid cards! Have you ever tried making one? They are not only fun but also incredibly easy to create. The trick is to start with a small image or a set of small images and repeat them in a structured grid format to fill your background beautifully.

Let’s dive in and explore four different grid card designs using the Eggstra Special stamp set by Simon Says Stamp!
What is a Grid Card?
A grid card is a design where you repeat small stamped images in a structured format, creating a clean and balanced background. Depending on the size of your images and card base, your grid can be as small as 2×2 or as large as 3×4.
Here are four variations I created, each featuring a unique grid layout:

Card 1: Classic 3×3 Grid with a Sentiment Block
For this card, I created a 3×3 grid, but instead of filling all the spaces with images, I replaced one block with a sentiment for added interest.
- Cardstock for the card base: Green Apple from Simon Says Stamp
- Color Palette: Warm yellows for the chicks paired with soft shading
Tip: If you want a cleaner look, leave small gaps between each grid element for a more defined structure.
Card 2: Vertical 2×3 Grid with an Off-Set Sentiment
This card features a 2×3 grid, but I wanted to add an extra visual element. Instead of incorporating the sentiment within the grid, I stamped it vertically along the right side to create a balanced yet unexpected layout.
- Cardstock for the Card Base: Sea Glass from Simon Says Stamp
- Why it Works: The cool blue background complements the bright yellow chicks, making them pop!
Card 3: Small but Mighty 2×2 Grid
If you’re new to grid cards or don’t have coordinating dies, this design is a great one to try! A 2×2 grid is perfect for creating a smaller focal point while still keeping the design structured.
- Sentiment Placement: Below the grid for a clean, grounded look
- Card Panel: 3 ½ x 4 ¾”, foam-mounted onto a Cream card base
Tip: If you want to add extra dimension and don’t have coordinating dies, try fussy cutting your stamped images and layering them with foam tape.
Card 4: Full 3×3 Grid with Extra Layers
This card follows the classic 3×3 layout, with a sentiment stamped below for added structure. To elevate the design, I added another panel (4 x 5 ¼”) and foam-mounted it onto a white A2 card base for extra dimension.
Coloring & Shading: I kept the embellishments minimal but used Copic shading under each chick to create depth.
Copic Marker Color Palette
For all of these cards, I used a limited but effective Copic color palette:
- Chicks: Y35, Y15, Y13, Y11
- Feet & Beaks: YR04, Y17
- Flower & Tutu: RV00, RV02
- Bunny Ears: C3, C1, RV00
- Eggs: YR0, E00, E000
