Simon Says Stamp | Funny Pretend Peacock Card. Video

I can’t seem to stop making funny cards lately. They are just so darn cute and irresistible! Googly eyes cards, funny sentiment cards, wobble spring cards, you name it! Here’s my latest funny project – a pretend peacock card with an addictive-to-use wobble spring.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

I couldn’t resist filming a quick video showing how to create this project (although it ended up being not so short and quick). I’m hoping you’ll enjoy it. Watch it below or on my Youtube channel:

CARD DETAILS

I love Simon’s latest mandala 6×6 cling background stamps. So unique, so bold, so different. They are great for classic and elegant projects, they would be fantastic for a set of wedding invitations or save the date cards, but I decided to use them in a slightly different way.

As I was looking at these, a portion of Emma’s background reminded me of a peacock’s tail. I could instantly envision a beautiful teal-blue-green peacock standing on my card with its tail feathers graciously spread across the project.

I grabbed a little birdy image from the Cuddly Critter Accessories stamp set and stamped him using Simon’s Intense Black ink. Using my Copic markers I colored both images using BG18, BG13, BG32, YG03, B29, and B05.

I am listing my most favorite Copic Marker Color Combos here in case you are looking for some beginner suggestions.

I cut both images out, bird – using a coordinating die and “tail” using scissors. I also stamped Emma design onto a 4 x 5 1/4″ white cardstock panel using Simon’s Fog ink and adhered my pretend peacock using wobble spring. You could simply foam mount the bird on top, but I went for an extra dose of humor here and used wobble spring instead.

I hope you always find a reason to smile” is the sentiment I picked for this project and I think it works out so well. I foam mounted my panel onto an A2 top folding card base made out of Fog cardstock and embellished the cards using Simon’s sequins and a few clear drops.

  2. I’m just in awe of your imagination and creativity on the funny peacock card. Love what you did!

  3. Your mind is always creating. To see a birds tail in the mandala and then make it wobble…..WOW.. Double WOW to the elegant cards too.

  4. So creative. The background stamps are on my wishlist. Using pieces/parts of them makes them even more useful

  5. Oh my goodness Yana, all of your cards are great but the card in the video is awesome. Such an ingenious way to use this background stamp! I love how you used the bird from the other set to make a peacock! Very clever!

  13. So much fun, and a great reminder to think of different ways to use things~I really like this background stamp. It is so elegant (as you showed us), but can also become something really fun and whimsical with a little different use. This is why you get to be a blogger and I get to be a learner!!!! And I learned something about peacocks, too. It’s a great Saturday morning so far. Thanks.

  14. This is why you’re one of my fave bloggers to follow… always clever and wonderfully made cards! Keep up the great work! 🙂

  15. These background stamps are definitely some of my favorites and I really like your peacock card. But, I also like the simplicity of the pencil colored love stamp. Very different cards all really well done.

  16. OMG!!! When I first saw your card I really thought your peacock bird was one bird. You did such a fabulous job putting him together!! I just love your card and it really mad me smile! I really needed that with the month I have had so far. Thank you for making my whole month better!!
