Hello and welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video! Today, we’re diving into a simple yet incredibly effective Copic Marker coloring technique: the Flick Stroke. This method adds texture, depth, and a beautifully realistic look to your floral images.

Choosing the Right Stamp & Colors
For this technique, I’m using the Pixie Dust stamp set — its large, detailed blooms are perfect for practicing flick strokes. You’ll need to select a range of colors just as you would for any other coloring method.
Here are the Copic shades I used:
- Petals: RV11, R85, R89 (with RV00 for additional blending)
- Flower Center: Y19, C9, C7, C5 (a mix of warm yellow and deep gray for contrast)
- Leaves: YG67 (darkest), YG17 (medium), YG03 (lightest)
How to Use the Flick Stroke Technique
- Start with the lightest color and apply long, gentle flicks from both the base and tip of the petal, moving toward the center. Keep the very center white or lightly colored – this will serve as a natural highlight.
- Layer the medium color, shortening your flicks slightly to create a natural gradient.
- Add the darkest shade in the deepest areas to build shadows and dimension.
The flicks not only add color but also create texture and depth, defining petal folds for a more realistic effect.
For the leaves, I switched things up by starting with the darkest color (YG67) first and working my way to the lightest (YG03)—this gives a more organic look to the foliage.
Assembling the Card
Once my coloring was complete, I die-cut the image using the coordinating die, then adhered it to a second die-cut layer for extra sturdiness.
For the background:
- I created an A2 top-fold card base from white cardstock.
- I cut a 4” x 5 ¼” panel and softly ink-blended Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Flannel on the bottom left corner.
- Using the same Flannel ink, I stamped the Old Letter background for a subtle vintage effect.
- To add texture, I splattered Spellbinders Splatter White over the panel.
- Once dry, I foam-mounted it onto the card base and added my die-cut flower on top for dimension.

Final Touches
To finish the card, I added a simple sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Everyday EZ Strips—”Have the best day”, and a few Aura sequins from Spellbinders for a touch of sparkle.
