Hello friends! Today I have a Clean & Simple card to share featuring some stamping and pencil coloring over a stamped image. I call this “enhancing background stamping with colored pencils”. I’ve only tried this once so far using Simon Says Stamp Modern Rose Blooms background stamp, but I’m itching to try it with other background stamps from my stash (I feel I have a lot of stamps that would work for this technique, Hero Arts Beachy Umbrellas one comes to mind first).

CARD DETAILS
I started making this card by stamping Rose background in Audrey Blue ink using my stamp platform. I stamped it on Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock. I love this background, but I wanted to add something to it – some shading or some highlights, some variation of color or something extra to make it pop.
I immediately thought about my Polychromos colored pencils from Faber Castell. One of the first color combinations that I discovered with these pencils was one featuring gorgeous turquoise colors (exact colors are: #156 Cobalt Green, #153 Cobalt Turquoise, #157 Dark Indigo – these come in the 36 pencil set). Here’s a link to that first attempt card I’m talking about.
I used the 3 colors mentioned above and added shading to the leaves next to the blooms. I could have also colored the blooms, but that required more time than I had on hand at the time, so I only colored leaves as their shape was much simpler to work with.
Once that was done I also outlined tiny branches and added shading to the smallest leaves.
For my sentiment I went with a large “Thanks” from the Big Thanks Words – I stamped it in black Versafine ink and coated with clear embossing powder for a shiny look. I also stamped “For Your Kindness” using Smoke ink. I foam mounted both parts of the sentiment on the background and adhered my background on an A2 white side folding card base.
Lastly, I added a tiny white enamel heart.

Your card is beautiful and the technique is one I have been meaning to try and your card makes me want to get to it.
It would be nice if your pics were taken as you work on the card so we can see how you start and what its like as you progress.
Thanks for sharing.
Wow! Amazing coloring!!
The pencil coloring really adds a lot of dimension to the background. Will have to try this technique with some of my stamps. Thanks for the great tip.
Yana, very gorgeous pencil work. Love seeing your cards they are always so stunning.x
A lovely card, Yana! Your creative mind made the beautiful stamp even better and the black sentiment really sets it off.
This is SO BEAUTIFUL, Yana! This pattern, SSS-Modern Roses Blooms Background, is GORGEOUS & looks like a print of fabric with the way you’ve enhanced it! JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! 😉
Beautiful card!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
This is so pretty Yana, your pencil colouring is always beautiful. You ‘first’ attempt is an absolute stunner! I so wish I had good coloured pencils as I would love to try this. One day maybe…
Beautiful card and great technique to try!
Wow! Gorgeous coloring!!
Stunning!
Love it Yana and the technique too. What would have been good would have been a photograph before your first one where you had just the background stamp image on the white card stock before you had started colouring so we crafters could see exactly which parts you coloured. Just a thought. TFS :O) xxx
