Hello there! Simple shape stamps are among my all time favorite to use because they allow me to stamp so much more than just a simple circle or oval or a square. I see simple shapes as building blocks – little bits and pieces I can use to create something entirely new and different.
Today I wanted to show you how you can use circles and ovals from the Scribble Flowers stamp set from Simon to create funny Doodle Valentine’s Day cards.

I’ve already used this stamp set in the past, I used it as intended – to stamp flowers. Click here to see that project.
VIDEO TUTORIAL
I’ve filmed a video tutorial where I am sharing everything in detail. You can watch it below or on my Youtube channel.

CARDS DETAILS
I combined circles and ovals and created funny birds. I have a big bird holding a bunch of flowers (stamped using that same Scribble Flowers set) and another card with two birds facing each other as if they are about to kiss.
These are almost one layer cards aside from the die cut party hat, bow tie, wings and eyes. I decided to die cut those pieces and adhere on top of the stamped images to help them remain white. You can simply stamp those directly onto the card, too.
ADDITIONAL INSPIRATION
If you are not into one-layer cards, I have these same ideas implemented with additional layers below.
I used Simon’s Schoolhouse Red cardstock as a background panel – did some of my stamping there (like the hearts, ground, sentiment and bird’s feet) and foam mounted stamped and die cut critters on top.
I used a dot cluster image from the Forever After stamp set to start a ground for my birds. I didn’t want them floating in the air (although that would be a great idea, too!) so I stamped ground in black ink.
I not only foam mounted bird’s bodies, but also additional elements such a wings, eyes, a bow tie and party hat. I love using foam adhesive and I always believe it helps elements pop on a card.
I wanted to add dimension to the eyes and I usually use glossy accents for this purpose. Recently I discovered Nuvo Drops in Morning Dew color – this product gives a very similar result but dries a lot more dimensional. I’ve already used it on a number of cards to add air bubbles, imitate glass on a lantern and more (I’ll be sharing those cards soon). You can also use googly eyes here it you’d like – maybe pick two sizes for a funny look.
There any many things one can do with simple shape stamps such as those in Scribble Flowers set. I simply scratched the surface with this idea, but possibilities are always endless.
Have fun stamping!
