Now that the Holidays are over (and the Christmas supplies have been put away) I’m happy to dive into other kinds of cards. Today I have a color blocked Valentine’s Day card to share featuring simple techniques – color blocking and heat embossing. If you are not into Valentine’s Day cards I hope you’ll still find this idea useful for other occasion cards (replace LOVE with HUGS and similar sentiments and you have yourself and everyday card for a friend).

CARD DETAILS
This card was inspired by design I spotted online (sadly can’t find a link to link to the original source) and was tempted to re-create the look using supplies in my stash. I looked through various colors of colored cardstock and pulled a few colors from Simon Says Stamp – Cotton Candy, Doll Pink, Lipstick Red and Schoolhouse Red.
I wanted to gold heat emboss “LOVE” on each piece of colored cardstock so I first trimmed paper to 1 1/4″ wide and adhered strips onto a piece of thin typing paper. Next, I carefully cut each letter apart in the word “LOVE” from the Stained Glass Love set and heat embossed each in antique gold. I also heat embossed “Valentine’s Day” and “You Forever & Always” in detail white embossing powder above and below the main Love.
I used solid layer of fun foam and foam mounted the color blocked panel on an A2 white top folding card base to pop it up a bit on the card. I also added a tiny pink enamel heart to finish this card. A very simple yet classy design. I hope you’ll give it a try!

Very pretty Yana, I’d love to try this myself, TFS!
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! Happy New Year!
Yana, this card is simple, but so very pretty! Love your color choices, and the gold embossing makes it very elegant! Thank you for sharing.
LOVE this, Yana! Your color blocking is GREAT! AND your embossing just tops it off PERFECTLY! Your card caught my eye when looking at my e-mails! 😉 QUITE NICE!!! (I think I’m ready for Valentines cards too! 😉 )
So very pretty!!
I don’t make Valentine’s cards, but I really like this idea and can adapt it to something else. The colors are so pretty and the overall look is so elegant. I also appreciate the very clean and simple design as well as the idea of how to use papers more creatively … allowing the paper to be such a big part of the design instead of the background. By the way, I’m looking forward to your new series (card making for beginners) and being taken back to the basics. Sometimes I get so caught up in trying to make an elegant card that takes a lot of work, etc., I forget that sometimes the simplest cards using just the basics (such as your card today) can be just as beautiful and meaningful. Thank you, Yana!
Simple yet pretty!!
Very neat! Love the design… I too rarely make Valentines cards, but the concept is adaptable and I love Simon’s stained glass stamps. I have the Peace set, and I’m already thinking about next year!
Oh soooo Beautiful!!!
So pretty, lovely idea. I have this stamp set already so this may be my idea for this year. Thank you for sharing.
