Hello and welcome back for another Yippee For Yana video! When was the last time you used masking paper? If it’s been a while, this is your sign to bring it back into your crafty routine! Masking paper is a simple yet powerful tool for creating seamless, colorful backgrounds that make your stamped images pop. Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Stamp & Mask Your Image
Start by stamping your focal image. I’m using the Black Eyed Susans stamp set from Simon Says Stamp but coloring the flowers as daisies for a fresh look.
- Stamp the same image onto masking paper (I’m using Altenew’s, but there are many great options available at Simon Says Stamp) and Neenah Solar White 80lb panel cut to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2″.
- Carefully fussy cut the mask—this is the most tedious step, but trust me, it’s so worth it! A good pair of detail scissors and possibly a craft knife will help with intricate areas.
- Apply the mask over your stamped image to protect it while we work on the background.
Step 2: Ink Blend the Background
Now for the fun part – adding color to the background!
I chose a soft teal blend for my white daisies using Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated inks in Mist and Dew. Light ink blending creates a soft glow, making the florals stand out beautifully! You can also:
- Layer additional stamping for extra texture;
- Add ink splatters for a fun, artistic effect.
When finished, carefully remove the mask to reveal your crisp, clean image beneath! Bonus tip: Save your mask on a carrier sheet—you can reuse it for future projects!
Step 3: Coloring with Copic Markers
With the background complete, it’s time to color the florals. I used Copic markers and combined Stippling and Flick Stroke techniques for a realistic effect.
Color palette:
- 🌼 Flower Centers: Y11, Y15, Y19, YR14
- 🌿 Leaves & Stems: YG03, YG17, YG67
- 🖤 Petals: C1, C3,
- Shadow: C5
Finishing Touches
To complete the card, I:
- Added a simple sentiment from the **Simon Says Stamp Everyday EZ Strips
- Embellished with Aura sequins from Spellbinders for a subtle shimmer.
