Hello there! When I first came to the United States many years ago (my first visit was as a high school foreign exchange student, I was 15 years old at the time) I was surprised to learn that school started in early August in the USA (and that it also started on a different date for different state/schools). I am from Ukraine and until recently our school year everywhere in the country always started on September 1st and ended on May 25th.
It still feels weird to start thinking about school in the middle of Summer, but considering it starts in early August in most places in the USA there really is nothing weird about it. So today I have a school card to share using some fun goodies from Pretty Pink Posh.

CARD DETAILS
I started making this card by white heat embossing “Hey There Smarty Pants” on black cardstock. I cut my sentiment stamp apart to be able to angle it a bit differently. I sometimes do this with clear stamps if I want to customize my image. Next, I used a good old chalkboard technique to turn black paper into a faux blackboard.
I applied white pigment ink using a mini ink dauber and blended it over the heat embossing creating the look of a messy board. I used a white pen and added frame/border to my board and also adhered a piece of white cardstock at the bottom to mimic that “shelf” for chalk and board eraser.
Next, I created a 4 1/4″ square card base and covered the front with patterned paper. It’s been ages since I used any patterned paper for my cards. I foam mounted my board on top.
I also stamped, die-cut and colored several images for this card – school friends, a backpack and an apple. I used my Copic markers in the following colors: R22, R24, R39, E79, E37, E33, E31, YG67, YG25, YG03, E00, C1.
I foam mounted the images onto my card next to the blackboard and also added a few stamped hearts for some extra pops of red.

Sweet card! 🙂
Really cute card.
So super adorable! I love the chalkboard!
Fun card!! Love the chalkboard!!
We always started school around my birthday in mid-August as a child. Since we moved to another state, it’s the day after Labor Day and I love it!
Love the chalkboard technique!! When I lived in the Northeast school started the day after Labor Day and ended in May. I still can’t get used to school starting in early August here in AZ!!! Thanks, Yana! I appreciate when you share tidbits of life/culture in Ukraine!
SO CUTE, Yana!!! WISH I had this stamp set & was into stamping when our kids were in school, (were younger)! LOL A SUPER JOB on the chalkboard technique too!!! 😉
Lovely card. Such great coloring. Thanks for sharing the details and bits about your life.
This is such a great card Yana, our children in the UK do not go back to school until the first week in September but I think the children in the USA break up a lot earlier than the UK to which is the end of July. I love the faux chalk board technique and will definitely be having a go at that some time in one of my projects in the future. TFS :O) xx
What a sweet and cute card Yana! That background panel is amazing!!
Gorgeous, fun card, shaded lovely, I had wondered how to do faux blackboard, good effect. I’m the UK out schools break up for summer early july then return roughly the first week of september. It’s been a while since my three were that small. Thanks for the card.
