I pulled out my Daniel Smith Watercolors yesterday and colored my heart out. I was in the mood to play, I didn’t want to use my Copic Markers, nor colored pencils, so the next option on the list were watercolors. I had fun. Now I want to get watercolor pencils. Do you own any? Is there a brand you particularly like? I used to have Faber Castel watercolor pencils, and I loved them, but I can’t find them.

CARD IDEA
I stamped florals from the Simon Says Stamp Sweet Friend stamp set in VersaFine Onyx Black ink onto Arches Cold Press Watercolors Paper using my mini MISTI. Not really thinking this through I covered the panel with Clear Embossing powder and heat set it. Since I didn’t use the anti-static powder you can see some odd texture on some of the flowers – that’s the clear embossing powder sitting on top of the paper and resisting watercolor.
I used 2 brushes for coloring – a water brush (this was used to wet the paper) and a paintbrush (this was used to apply color). I like to color this way – one brush stays clean during the process and is only used to wet the area I plan to color and the other brush is used to deliver the color to the paper. I cut the images out using coordinating dies and created this floral pattern.
Next, came the long debate – should I use a white or a black card base/background? My passion for dark moody backgrounds prevailed, so I used a panel of black cardstock to create a background for this card. I had one with skinny gold foiled stripes sitting on my desk and that made the perfect background for this project (the skinny stripes were made with a glimmer plate, it is a new product coming soon).
I foam mounted the florals and leaves, trimmed off the excess, and adhered the panel to an A2 white side folding card base. To make a sentiment I used Simon’s pre-printed Sentiment Strips, I LOVE those lately. And finally, I added several clear droplets to finish this card.
