I’m so excited to dive deeper into one of the newest additions to my Yana’s Daisies collection with Spellbinders — the Daisy Trio BetterPress Plate and its coordinating stencil bundle. This set officially launched on April 10th, and today I want to give you an in-depth look at how it works, what makes it special, and how you can use it to create beautiful, dimensional cards for any occasion.

A BETTERPRESS PLATE DESIGNED FOR IMPACT
The Daisy Trio BetterPress Plate is designed to fit A2 cards (just a bit larger than 4.25″ x 5.5″). When you press this plate onto paper, it creates a stunning negative design – inking the background while leaving the daisy outlines clear. This gives you an elegant and bold look that’s perfect for highlighting florals.
For the best results, I recommend using BetterPress ink and cardstock, which give you the cleanest, most detailed impressions. While regular dye inks and cardstock can still work, you may notice a loss in detail compared to the crisp, fine lines you’ll get with BetterPress-specific materials.
THE COORDINATING STENCIL SET
Included in the bundle is a four-layer stencil set designed to help you effortlessly add color to your daisies:
- Stencil 1 – Adds flower centers and stems (perfect for yellow, black, brown, or orange).
- Stencils 2 & 3 – Add color to the daisy petals with layering options for extra depth.
- Stencil 4 (New!) – A shadow layer that creates a beautifully soft halo effect around the flowers.
These stencils include etched markings to help you align them easily, and numbered labels to keep everything organized, which is especially helpful if you’re working with multiple stencil sets at once.
TIPS FOR PRESSING & TRIMMING
I recommend pressing your design onto a larger sheet of cardstock and trimming it afterward. This gives you more room to tape down the paper securely without leaving unwanted marks. You can also try foiling this plate using Spellbinders’ Glimmer Foils for a shimmery look – just be sure to use specialty foiling paper for best results.
CREATIVE POSSIBILITIES: INK COLORS & SHADOWS
The beauty of this plate is how versatile it is with color combinations. You can:
- Use a darker version of your base color for subtle shadows.
- Add a dramatic gray or contrasting hue to make your florals pop.
- Even try ombre effects by inking your plate with multiple colors!
In one of my samples, I used a dark blue background with a darker shadow, which added so much depth. In another, I paired a soft pink background with light pink blending and yellow flower centers for a sweet and cheerful card.
A LOOK BEHIND THE DESIGN
This plate is part of a growing trend in my collections: designing backgrounds that are pre-colored. The idea came from my early cardmaking days, where I used to color around stamped or foiled flowers with markers. Now, the plate takes care of that background for you, so you can focus on coloring or stenciling the florals.
