CARD DETAILS – MONOCHROMATIC STAMPING
I personally love to use florals for my handmade cards, but I don’t always want to spend the time coloring the flower. Today I have a few cards to share using new Hero Floral stamps showing how you can skip coloring and still use your outline floral images to make beautiful cards.
This handmade card uses Nuvo Drops as a final touch. Want to see 4 other ways you can use Nuvo Drops from Tonic Studios in card making? Check out this article – 5 Ways to Use Nuvo Drops.
For my card #1 I used my stamp platform and Rose Stem stamp along with some colored cardstock. I stamped the floral image repeatedly using Versamark Watermark ink creating floral frame and empty space in the center.
I love this watermark look – I find these florals looks spectacular when stamped in VersaMark ink onto various dark colors of cardstock.
The stamps themselves have a lot of detail to them – there’s shading added and that makes these images very beautiful. If you think about it – you don’t necessarily need to add coloring because these florals are beautiful as is.
I also stamped a beautiful sentiment that reads “I Can’t Thank You Enough (But It Won’t Stop Me From Trying)“, added a same watercolored flower and embellished this almost one layer card with Nuvo Drops in Carnation Pink.
Here’s another sample of the same technique but done on different color cardstock:
CARD DETAILS – MONOCHROMATIC HEAT EMBOSSING
For my card #2 I did monochromatic heat embossing. I started by stamping a sentiment and this one reads “Congratulation! We Are so Happy For You“. Next, I used Dahlia image and stamped it repeatedly around the edges of the panel framing it.
I gold heat embossed all of my images and added a W3 warm gray Copic marker outline to emphasize these florals. I kept this card very simple and only embellished it with Clear Nuvo Drops.
CARD DETAILS – MONOCHROMATIC STAMPING & EMBOSSING
I used the Mum and the Mum Stem images from the Hero Florals collection for my next card and I combined heat embossing and VersaMark Watermark stamping. I first heat embossed several mum images around the edges of my panel creating a floral frame – I used Platinum embossing powder. Next, I stamped the mum stem multiple times using just the watermark ink and no heat embossing. This helped me fill in the gaps on my background.
So you can see I did very little to no coloring for these cards. Where I did do some coloring it was just quick wet-on-wet watercolor.
ADDITIONAL INSPIRATION
I have two more card ideas to share using Hero’s Florals. My card #1 features ink blending – I heat embossed floral outlines in gold embossing powder and used Hero Arts inks along with a Tonic Ink Blending brush to blend some color and fake the coloring. I used Butter Bar along with Pink Madder.
My last card idea for today features watercolor. I took some time to color this flower and I really love the way it turned out. I did my coloring on Arches Cold Pressed watercolor paper using my Daniel Smith watercolors in Opera Pink, Quinacridone Pink and Sap Green.

These are all so pretty. You’re right, the florals are so gorgeous on their own, non-colored. Being one of those who doesn’t color much, that’s perfect. I love the way you outlined the florals on the ‘congratulations’ card.
