Colorado Craft Company | Cardmaking with Big & Bold Stamps. Huge Lips card by Yana Smakula #cardmaking #valentinesdaycard #coloradocraftcompany

Hello! Today I have something very special to share with all of you and I also have a giveaway to thank you for being my loyal subscribers and viewers. There are actually 3 giveaways sponsored by Colorado Craft Company.

Colorado Craft Company is a newer stamp company. I have shared a video and several projects with their products back in July 2019 and I had an absolute blast creating with their stamps. What I love most about their designs is their huge size. The images, especially in their Big & Bold line, are very large and easily take center stage on an A2 card and can readily be used on larger projects.

I have 4 cards to share with you all featuring their new Big & Bold stamp set – Love’s Kiss, this is a new design for January 2020. There are 3 new Big & Bold stamp sets and several other sets releasing this month – you can see all new designs HERE.

These sets are available exclusively at Simon Says Stamp for the first 2 days after the launch, so January 3rd and January 4th, and after that, on January 5th they will also become available on the Colorado Craft Company’s website.

Watch my video tutorial below or on Youtube to learn how I made the cards I’m sharing today.

BIG & BOLD SETS BY COLORADO CRAFT COMPANY

These stamp sets do have a bit of a higher price point, but they are larger in size and are very practical for those who like to color. Each of the Big & Bold sets features one large size image that easily takes up the entire space of an A2 card and the stamp sets also have a number of coordinating sentiments done in various styles to complement the image.

Because of the size of these images, you have the freedom to really go to town with your favorite coloring mediums and add as many details as you like. You also have a lot of room to dress up your cards with additional mediums and add in more detail with a white pen for example, or glossy accents. If you are not into coloring, the Love’s Kiss is perfect for you as all you need is a couple of ink pads and some embossing powder and you’ve got yourself a classy card for a girlfriend or Valentine’s Day.

CARD DETAILS

I love makeup and when I saw the Love’s Kiss stamp set I got very excited because I knew I would be able to experiment with my ink pads in a different way, in a way as if I was to do my lips.

When you do your lip you’d usually use a pencil to line the lip and the pencil typically is the same color as your lipstick or a shade darker. Sometimes you can also add a bit of lighter lipstick color to the center of the lip or add some gloss on top if you’d like a shiny, glossy lip. With all of this in mind, I looked through my stash to find the best supplies I could use to create a realistic-looking lip on paper.

The first thing that came to mind was ombre ink pads from Hero Arts. They have 3 colors of ink in them – a light, a medium and a dark and work really well with solid images such as these lips. The darkest color would be used around the edge of the lip, the outside edge and the lightest color on the inside.

It is very helpful to use a stamping tool such as MISTI or similar as it will allow you to double or even triple stamp your image in the exact same spot. I used Red ombre for the red lip, Pink ombre for the pink lip, Purple ombre for the purple and Peach for the peach one.

I wanted the lips to appear shiny, glossy and I wanted them to be slightly raised above the background. I was able to achieve this with the help of embossing powder, clear embossing powder.

As with applying the color, I’ve applied the embossing powder, or the gloss, several times to have more shine on the lips. Best to use regular clear embossing powder, not detailed embossing powder as this image is not detailed, it actually needs a chunkier powder for better coverage. Repeat adding gloss 2 to 4 times and heat set the powder each time with your heat tool. The lips will become more and more dimensional with each layer.

The Love’s Kiss stamp set comes with several sentiments, I picked one that reads “A Good Kiss is Worth Another” by Marylin Monroe and stamped it in black ink just below the lips. There’s also a little beauty mark in the stamp set, and I stamped one in Vintage Sepia ink above the lips for some added interest.

If you don’t have these ombre ink pads, you can achieve a similar look using your regular ink pads and just do some layered inking. Watch my video for the how-to.

I trimmed the panels to 4 x 5 1/4” and foam mounted them to A2 white side folding card bases to finish my cards.

Hello, friends! Happy Sunday! I hope you are having a fabulous crafty weekend. I’ve fallen a bit sick…

  1. I love the Red one that says q good kiss is worth another…That one is so gorgeous yet natural looking and vibrant. I love how you used the clear embossing powder as gloss to give it that extra POW!

    1. I love both the red and the pink lip cards.
In real life I don’t wear makeup but I’ve always loved the look of lip prints on Valentine’s day items. My wallet is black with red lips on them.

  2. I love these cards. The larger image stamp sets are just beautiful. The red lips is definitely my favourite, you can’t beat a nice red lip.

  3. I really like the larger images as I struggle with backgrounds. I have to say I liked both the red and pink lips. Depending on whom I am sending it to I would use the red lips for love and the pink for friends.

  4. Your embossed red lips on this card are amazing!! I wish I could pull something like that off in real life – I usually just stick to more neutral shades.

  5. I love Colorado Craft Company! I like more of a rum colored lipstick (between pink and red) but I think the card with the red lips is my favorite.

  6. Love the big lip images and the Norma Jean quotes. Someone at Colorado Craft gets an A+ for the lips. I like all of your cards but the red lips are my favorite. thank you

    1. I love, love the red. Just so classic. I really appreciate how you break things down so they don’t seem so intimidating.

  7. First of all, I can’t express how inspiring your work is!!! Thank you for sharing your skills with us!! I love these stamps! Favorite has to be the bold red, however they are all sooooo beautiful! Have a great day 🙂

  8. Just amazing cards and stamps love everything just perfect my favourite lip colour is pink but I love red also thanks for the demo kind regards janine amazing giveaway too thanks

  9. love how elegant these cards are. This stamp company is ne to me but LOVE the ‘legs’ images. My favorite lip color is dark purple – thanks for the chance:)

  10. Happy New Year ! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE both the peach & red lips! I’m having a hard time choosing. But I’ll choose peachy. I have a few of the lovely legs collection, but would be very appreciative of the lips stamp.

  11. Wow! Those lips are fabulous! I love how simple the design is, yet those lips pack a punch.

  12. I love a shade called Starlit Pink, a rich shade of darker pink. Great cards! The red one just grabs your attention. Thanks for sharing these.

  13. I am loving the release this month. The lips stamp is so fun. I think my favorite are the pink lips.

  14. These are so striking! If I wear lipstick, it’s very neutral so I love these bold colors that I could never get away with!

  15. Oh, my!! So hard to choose! I’m going with the almost goth purple lips this time (I would wear the coral, though, if ink were lipstick!) The embossing was a genius move!

  16. Pow! Right on the kisser! You’re the perfect designer to show off this gorgeous set—CAS with EP layers. Absolutely stunning. Red is my fave. Now’s the time for me to get those HA Ombre ink pads!

  17. These are gorgeous, my fave is the red since that’s what I adore wearing. As for real life lipstick, its so hard to find the right red! Currently blending three to make the right shade lol

  18. I love this release. The big and bold stamps are my favorite. They are surely “bold and beautiful”

  19. I love the red lips the best but my granddaughter would be thrilled with a card with the purple lips. Love love love the lip stamp.

  20. I love the red lips. I use to seal my letters to my husband with a kiss and this stamp reminded me of that. Love your work it is so bold and the color choices are amazing.

  22. Great look! I like the first red lips you did. You really make it look real with the gloss.

  23. Yana, I first found out about Colorado Craft Co through the videos that you did with their large ice cream cone, cupcake and cake slice stamps…. went right over to Simons and bought them and really enjoy coloring them. Thank you! I so enjoy watching you create.
My favorite of these cards…. well, I LOVE pink so although each of your cards is gorgeous, the card with pink lips is my fav! Happy New Year Yana!

  24. This lip card is the best! I think I like the dark red best. I would no wear that color lipstick but, it looks good on other people.

  25. I love the classic: the red one! The colour is so bold. I would love to wear it, but I don’t have enough confidence… So on a card will do just fine!

  26. I love the colors used on the lips and I also love makeup. I’d love to give my hubby this card for valentines day. I love Colorado craft company stamps as they are different from other lines in several ways.

  27. Love those red lips. Really love the Colorado Stamp Company. Have a couple of their stamp sets that you have previously videoed. Thanks for sharing.

  28. I liked the reddest card you made, first one, and liked how you raised the lips with repeated uses of embossing powder.

  29. Love your cards and this lip image is just awesome. I love the purple lips. I’ve been using a similar color myself for the winter. Love your cards and videos…always so inspiring. Thanks so much for the chance to win an awesome prize.
