Hello crafters. One of the first things I select when creating a card is the color scheme or color combination. Typically, I reach for the easiest option and color combo – which is pink, yellow, and green, or yellow, green and teal, or a rainbow of colors. If you look at cards online, you’ll most likely see these colors dominate everywhere, at least in my cards. But, there are so many other wonderful color combinations out there. I challenged myself to try some new combinations and I invite you to join me! Pull out your favorite cutting dies and colored cardstock and let’s get crafty!

There are many different ways to properly combine colors according to color theory. Today I’m looking at the analogous color schemes. If you have a color wheel in your stash – grab it – it will be very useful for today’s exercise. If you don’t have a color wheel, you can look one up online and use that.

CARDS DETAILS
The cards I am sharing are all created using Stitched Alphabet collection from Spellbinders – it is a fabulous release with an entire lowercase alphabet designed for stitching. The size of the letters is perfect for A2 cards. They of course can be used for larger projects, like scrapbook pages, and home decor pieces. These letters coordinate with the May 2022 Large Die of the Month from Spellbinders – the size of the letters is the same.
Each letter is 2 a 2-part die. There’s a stitched letter and a shadow die. I like to cut the stitched letter from thick cardstock and cut it twice and back up the stitched letter with another layer to make it sturdier. Some letters are very detailed and when I stitch I find that floss can tangle a bit and mangle the letters, so adding that extra layer of cardstock makes them sturdier and they just look better in the end.
For these cards I find I like to cut the letter from colored cardstock and stitch them with white floss. The stitching is very easy and I find it a relaxing process. The letters are small and one letter doesn’t take a lot of time to stitch, in fact, die-cutting the flowers takes longer.
I foil “you are” in the top center and the corresponding adjective in the bottom center in Matte Gold foil leaving room in the middle for the stitched letter. I die cut and assembled several flowers using the Be Bold Blooms die set from Spellbinders. I foam mounted the flowers and leaves adorning the letter – some of the flowers even hide part of the letter and overlap it.
I also embellished each card with several gems – I added tiny gems into the center of the stitching, the stitching looks like a flower, so adding a gem in the center was the perfect touch, and I also scattered some gems around the focal point.
I hope you feel inspired to create! Have fun crafting.

Thank you for the video. I have such a hard time choosing colors!
Thank you for explaining this! I am getting a color wheel in my next order– but I am also using your examples to cheat 🙂
Absolutely stunning, fresh, radiant, unique… you are surely one of my favorite card makers. You are in my daily prayers and so is Ukraine, your mom, husband and friends. Stay safe.
Thank you so much! I have a terrible time choosing colors so I found this video to be really helpful. Time to get out my color wheel so I can try picking some analogous colors. Love your cards, too.
I have never ever seen anything so beautiful! E.V.E.R. I can’t WAIT to get all the supplies and try this!!!! This is especially inspiring given your worries (a mild word to describe what you must be going thru). You are truly so gifted Yana. To being us such beauty and inspiration is quite incredible. Thank you.
Fantastic inspiration, Yana! Tripping over myself now to go play!
Oh my goodness Yana, your cards are G ( for gorgeous) ! It’s rare to find good color wheel videos made by my favorite artists. I pick my wheel up often and try to learn from it ( specifically color combos) but not being an artist, I find it difficult. I appreciate your video SO very much. You’re a gem Yana, thank you for sharing your knowledge and stunning examples.
I just love the bold and beautiful colors…I will try to do that in my scrapbooking. It is stunning! Please stay safe and know that prayers are with you always!! Kathy Marine
