Hello there! Thank you for stopping by to help celebrate new release from Altenew for February 2018. This post is a part of a celebratory blog hop (more about the hop and giveaways below).
Today I’m sharing a new to me way to color florals with Copic or other Alcohol markers. This is nothing new, but it’s something that I have recently discovered as I was playing with my markers and tried to come up with a fun way to color flowers. I also recently watched a video by Janette for Hero Arts about Flick Style coloring with pencils and her video has inspired my to try flicking with my Copics (visit Janette’s blog for more inspiration).

CARD DETAILS
I started working on my projects by stamping beautiful floral images from a new stamp set by Altenew – Forever and Always in Simon Says Stamp Intense Black ink into onto Neenah Solar White cardstock. I used the flick style coloring to color the flowers and leaves. The colors I used were RV00, RV34 and RV09.
I applied my lightest color RV00 and I just colored the entire flower in. Next, I used my medium color, RV34 and flicked where the petals need to be darker, so I added shading to each petal. As I was coloring this I did notice that it’s best to let each layer of marker dry completely, so that the flicks do not blend together, but rather remain crisp and sharp. I’ve also found that for me it is easiest to flick in one direction, so instead of turning my hand I was rotating the paper.
Once I had my medium color flicked on, I can came in with the darkest color and flick it on as well. This coloring method worked really well for me for coloring these small flowers. The petals, especially those in the center of the flower were so small it would have been impossible to do proper blending, so I am happy I discovered this flicking technique.
I used just 3 colors for my coloring today, but I can also see myself using more colors, especially if the petals are a bit larger. This kind of coloring was also a bit inspired by Altenew layering images – some of their floral images have layers that mimic these flicks.
Once my coloring was done I added horizontal scoring to my background avoiding the stamped area – I’ve been using this technique for several month now and I’m still loving it. It is a bit hand on the hand especially if you score a bunch of backgrounds, but I think the end result is so totally worth it. Watch THIS VIDEO to learn more about it.
Next, I stamped and die cut Hand Made using the stamp and die from the Crafty Life stamp set and also stamped Create Happiness Today in black ink onto one of the scored sections of my background. I used my Simon Says Stamp Intense Black ink for stamping the sentiment as this is the kind of ink I used to stamp my flower outline and I like my inks to match for projects like this.
Finally, I trimmed my background to 4 x 5 1/4″ and foam mounted onto an A2 card base. I foam mounted the Handmade die cut and also used clear droplets from Pretty Pink Posh to embellish this card. I wanted to keep it very simple and have the floral arrangement be the center of attention.
I did foam mount the Hand Made die cut over one of the colored flowers – the yellow one. I did that for a few reasons. First, I wanted this cluster to have just 3 flowers, the 4th one looked a bit odd and it was distracting. Second, I didn’t like how I colored the yellow flower, my flicks were too big and it just didn’t look right. Third, I couldn’t find any better spot for this die cut – simple as that!
I also created one more card using another floral cluster from the Forever and Always stamp set. I did the exact same thing here in terms of stamping and coloring, For my sentiment I once again using the Crafty Life stamp set and I stamped I Love Ink, Paper, Stamps and You in black ink. I trimmed my panel and foam mounted onto a black card base for a lot of contrast.

I love your background and the colors and creativity you pass along! Thanks Yana
Just placed an order for my very first Altenew products. Can’t wait to get them.
I’m an old “flicker” myself… lol I love seeing this on flowers as many petals actually have this contrast in real life. So beautiful all layered together!
I love the sentiment on the card. Moving into the must have category. Your example using it is lovely.
Such creative projects. Thanks for the chance to win.
That Crafty Life stamp set is a must have for any crafter! It’s already in my wishlist!
I can’t wait to try this method. Love your work.
I love that big, bold sentiment paired with your beautiful flowers!
Beautiful card. Wish I could use alcohol pens like that, but I am much more comfortable with watercolors.
Beautiful card—will have to give this technique a try. I love the sentiments in this release.
Beautiful coloring. Love your card!
Your cards are beautiful. I love your technique. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for showing this flicking technique. I have tried it but it doesn’t come out as lovely as yours.
Your cards are very elegant !
I love this flick technique, I’m going to give it a try. I like when stamp sets include a colored picture of the stamp on the packaging because I also have trouble telling what is what on an image sometimes when there is a lot of detail.
Love how you colored your roses
Altenew has done it again! What a wonderful release with beautiful sentiments and my favourite Sewn With Love stamp and die set. Thanks for the lovely inspiration!
Beautiful cards!
I love this card, gorgeous stamp and of course, colouring and colour, Altenew has the most beautiful flower stamps and so many have a botanical look to them. A fantastic release.
Beautiful card! Great release.
Really gorgeous cards! I love that stamp set, it’s so pretty! The technique, however, seems like it would be harder to do! You did a beautiful job with it but I think I would have to do quite a bit of practicing!
This is stunning! I envy your talent with the Copics!!!!
Wow, gorgeous Yana. I love the “Happy colours” you used. Thank you.
Your flicking coloring looks wonderful on this new floral stamp set! Thanks for explaining how to do it.
Such beautiful cards. Love the coloring. Thanks so much for sharing…
The colors are vibrant and gorgeous. I want, must have some of the new release for my stash.
Beautiful! Great colors! The embossed lines are such a great finishing touch!
Great way to color this stamp. Looks like so fun!
The cards are so pretty! Thank you for sharing the “flicking” technique with us.
Such pretty cards. Love the colors.
I love the black border on these–it really adds some drama. As does the simple line embossing detail. Subtle, but not without impact! I am saving the video for my bedtime treat…can’t wait! Thank you.
Love the bold colors
Your cards are always so pretty!
Lovely coloring, Yana!
I love how you colored both flowers. As I don’t own copics I think I’ll try this using colored pencils. Thanks for the inspiration!
You are always creating happiness! What a perfect sentiment!
I always enjoy your videos and learn something new each time. I am inspired by your coloring skills in so many different media. Love the flicking technique and how well you explain it. You are a born educator and a fabulous artist! Thanks for sharing your creativity!
Beautiful cards, thanks for tips on copic coloring flicking technique.
Beautiful card Yana, you are rapidly becoming one of my favorite card makers.
Thank you!
I love the new release! Thanks for the chance to win!
Thank you for the videos you make Yana. These are great vibrant colours on these cards. What a fab release.
Stunning flowers – I love the bold shading and that hint of glimmer also!
Beautiful card. Love the coloring. I am just learning and this is inspirational.
Love how you combined this floral stamp/die with the wonderful new sentiment! Gorgeous coloring!
Beautiful flowers.
Love how you used these two new stamps together. That sentiment rocks your colorful card!
I love the coloring technique!
I’m always impressed with your cards, Yana! The flick technique gave the flowers even more dimension. I’m going to try this with my colored pencils.
