Hello there! Thank you so much for stopping by today to help celebrate Alcohol Marker Release from Altenew. This is something completely new and absolutely incredible! I remember how excited I was when Altenew came out with their first ink pads 2 years ago – they did not disappoint one bit. Hopefully, these markers won’t either (I am extremely happy with them so far).
Like this project? Pin it and save for later
I’ll admit, I was very skeptical about these markers from Altenew. I have Copics, I have Chameleon Pens, I even have Trimcraft First Edition Markers (also alcohol based). I didn’t think I’d like these by Altenew. But you never judge the book by its cover (not that there’s something wrong with the “cover” of these markers). I gave them a try – and oh boy!
I first tested these markers on a piece of Simon’s 120 LB White Cardstock (I love this paper for Copic coloring) – I colored from light to dark to see how the colors would blend, tried both nibs to see how they apply ink. I loved the result!
Next, I grabbed a sheet of Neenah Solar White paper (this is my most used paper for stamping) and stamped Altenew Adore You flowers and leaves using Simon’s Intense Black ink.
You can use these markers with Altenew existing inks for “no-line coloring” technique. You do have to use alcohol-friendly ink to color with these, so you can’t stamp ouline images with Altenew crisp dye inks and color, the outline will bleed.
The marker set being released today contains reds, blues and greens so I decided to use reds and greens to color my images. I went with “from dark to light” application and first added my darkest color, next my medium and blended everything with the lightest. I later came in with the darkest color again to intensify the shadows.
I did find those harder to blend on Neenah vs Simon’s 120 LB paper, but it’s harder to blend Copics there too. I will definitely have to play with these markers some more to learn more about them, but my initial impression is WOW.
One of the reasons I was on the fence about these at first is I decided to really commit to growing my Copic collection and to get to know my Copic markers better (I recently did Favorite Copic Color Combo chart & post). This was just my personal reason. Nonetheless, these markers from Altenew are a great alternative to Copics. I don’t want to do a comparison, but I will say – they are really great (and nobody is asking me to say/write this, I truly enjoyed using them). One thing I loved – the colors, like with Altenew inks, are grouped together for easy blending. I don’t know how well future colors will blend (and I don’t know if there will be future colors or if there will be re-inkers or replacement nibs), but they do take the guesswork of what colors to use together now.
I cut my colored images out and used a black marker to color the edges of the paper to hide the white. This set comes with a black marker, so I didn’t even have to reach for my Copic black. I also used a white gel pen and drew white dots in the flower centers.
I went with my Perfect Cardmaking formula and used an elegant gold trim, pretty paper – Spicy Yogurt, foam mounted flowers and leaves on top, added a simple Thank You sentiment and finished this card off with a few Rose Gold sequins and clear droplets from Pretty Pink Posh.
Before I go here’s a photo of my initial test doodling/drawing/sketching with these markers. I always appreciate photos like these, so I hope you’ll find it useful too (click to enlarge):

Stunning card with wonderful new markers.
Your cards always amaze me! Gorgeous coloring and shading on your beautiful card! Love that these markers coordinate with the inks! Fabulous!
Beautiful card! I have Spectrum Noir markers. I got them because of their price but I’m not crazy about them. I love the Altenew inks that I have so I might have to give the markers a try.
Your card is beautiful. I love how you have used the new markers, thanks for the inspiration!!
I love how you used the Altenew markers on this card!
I like how informative your post is Yann, thanks for the tips!
What a gorgeous card Yana.. I absolutely love your coloring and design.Thank you so much for the review of the Altenew markers. I am definitely planning on getting some to try out and your review really helps 🙂
Thank you for all the good commentary on these markers. I will be adding them to my copics. Your sample was awesome as was your evaluation of this new product.
Your card is just so lovely! The gold trim is a pretty touch! I already have some Copics & Chameleon pens but the selling point for the new Altenew markers for me would be the tips & the fact that the colours coordinate with their inks.
Yana your card is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your first impression of these markers that really helps. Thank you for the chance to win.
Love your beautiful creative card.
The card that you created with these markers is absolutely beautiful, Yana! You definitely show-off what beautiful works can be created with them!
Beautiful card and colors! Thank you for sharing. I only have a few of Copic markers, and would love to get these Altenew markers later!
I love flower stamps. Flowers are so pretty and stamps that are cut out very exact so that when you stamp your paper the stamps come out crisp and clear, those are the ones I especially like. I used to love a stamp company called PSX because their stamps were like Altenew, they stamped so beautifully, very crisp and very clear. They went out of business. I’m glad there is another company who matches them. I love how you used the red and the white dots you added. It doesn’t lookalike they were added. That gold decorative element adds just the right touch. It’s a beautiful card and I am glad I got to see it. Now I can’t wait to win something. Off to my next stop on the hop. Boy, are my legs tired from all that hopping! LOL
As usual, Yana, your work is beautiful even if trying out something new.
I have mostly Copics but I also have some of the Marvy alcohol markers and a few of the Spectrum Noir. I wonder if the Altenew markers will play well with other alcohol markers.
BEAUTIFUL coloring – makes for a WOW card! I have an extensive Copic collection so will probably stay with that, but REALLY like that stamp set – would love to order it as well as the gold embellishments!!!
Paper Hugs,
Jan
You are so talented! Your coloring making me want to try. I do not have any alcohol_based markers.
Carol
Love, love, love…the card and the new Altenew markers. Thank you for your inspiration and sharing you perfect card technique.
Another stunning card Yana ! As usual your colouring is perfect ! I love what I read about these markers as here Copics markers are so expensive and not that easy to find ! Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
What a stunning card! Those new markers are fantastic. I might just have to invest in some alcohol markers after all!! Just love watching all your videos and appreciate all the work you do in sharing your talents. Thank you so much from Australia!
Beautiful as always❤
Gorgeous card. I love the colors and coloring. I’m like you in the respect that I have Copics, Chameleon, and a couple of other alcohol markers. Not sure about another set, but I will probably try them anyway.
Gorgeous card. Love your design and embelishement. Coloring with markers looks fabulous. I still don´t have any alkohol markers , just learning coloring…soo Who knows. This markers look great to me.
Marjeta
Thanks for sharing details about your experience, so this is not just another “product push”… I really appreciate your honesty and creativity, of course!!
Lovely card! Really appreciate your honest thoughts about these markers too. I don’t have any alcohol markers but my 12-year-old got some for Christmas! I might have to persuade her to try these instead, if postage to Australia isn’t too expensive!
Simply amazing…Lovely coloring
Love your videos! Lovely card designs.
Gorgeous card – you definitely have the perfect formula to create beauty. I do have a quite a few copics in my stash and do like to colour.
Beautiful card. Thanks for your description of the use of the pens.
I love your “formula!” and your coloring is just amazing! I am not ready to commit my resources to a lot of alcohol markers (already have a lot–SN, Bic, Sharpie), but I prefer other coloring mediums. Perhaps as my other skills develop, I will change my mind. I would like to try these–love the idea of brush tip/ bullet nib. Thanks for reminding me about the “formula” and for this stunning example.
Your mini-review and example made me want to try the set and see what I think, because I surely loved your card. Thank you so much for all the inspiration!
Gorgeous card! Beautiful colouring! Excited about the new markers!
I do own Copics but these markers are so tempting because I LOVE the Altenew color families. The colors are all fantastic.
Love your card! Love the thought of sprig and Altenew colors!
Your card is stunning!
I do have a few Copics and some Sheehan markers in my stash! They are fun to play with, just wish I was as talented as you are with them!

The touch of gold is such a nice thing!
Your card is so pretty. I love the colors and the use of the white gel pen.
and yes, I have copic markers
Your card is beautiful as always. Wow that are such great new for altenew markers. I think I need (must have) them. I have FineColor alcohol markers, they are a low buget markers, but they don’t have a brush tip. I’d like to try out some with brush tip. And this would be a great gift for my birthday on 23 January <3 Hugs and kisses from cold Slovenia. Tamara
Your card is beautiful
Kathleen
Beautiful card as always!
No, I don’t have any alcohol markers yet as I wanted to buy some Copics but they are quite expensive and you really need a few of each color to do some shading…so I am quite tempted to buy these to try 🙂
Thank you for sharing and for the giveaway
Your work is incredible! I love to see what you make, and especially love your videos. I really appreciate that you explained how you first tested these out – the papers, slight comparison to Copics, etc. Thank you so much!
Love your card as always – very pretty. It’s fun that altenew has come out with matching markers along side of their inks. I look forward to purchasing and using these markers. Thanks for sharing.
