Altenew | Alcohol Markers Release - Royal Flowers Thank You Card. Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello there! Thank you so much for stopping by today to help celebrate Alcohol Marker Release from Altenew. This is something completely new and absolutely incredible! I remember how excited I was when Altenew came out with their first ink pads 2 years ago – they did not disappoint one bit. Hopefully, these markers won’t either (I am extremely happy with them so far).

I’ll admit, I was very skeptical about these markers from Altenew. I have Copics, I have Chameleon Pens, I even have Trimcraft First Edition Markers (also alcohol based). I didn’t think I’d like these by Altenew. But you never judge the book by its cover (not that there’s something wrong with the “cover” of these markers). I gave them a try – and oh boy!

I first tested these markers on a piece of Simon’s 120 LB White Cardstock (I love this paper for Copic coloring) – I colored from light to dark to see how the colors would blend, tried both nibs to see how they apply ink. I loved the result!

Next, I grabbed a sheet of Neenah Solar White paper (this is my most used paper for stamping) and stamped Altenew Adore You flowers and leaves using Simon’s Intense Black ink.

You can use these markers with Altenew existing inks for “no-line coloring” technique. You do have to use alcohol-friendly ink to color with these, so you can’t stamp ouline images with Altenew crisp dye inks and color, the outline will bleed.

The marker set being released today contains reds, blues and greens so I decided to use reds and greens to color my images. I went with “from dark to light” application and first added my darkest color, next my medium and blended everything with the lightest. I later came in with the darkest color again to intensify the shadows.

I did find those harder to blend on Neenah vs Simon’s 120 LB paper, but it’s harder to blend Copics there too. I will definitely have to play with these markers some more to learn more about them, but my initial impression is WOW.

One of the reasons I was on the fence about these at first is I decided to really commit to growing my Copic collection and to get to know my Copic markers better (I recently did Favorite Copic Color Combo chart & post). This was just my personal reason. Nonetheless, these markers from Altenew are a great alternative to Copics. I don’t want to do a comparison, but I will say – they are really great (and nobody is asking me to say/write this, I truly enjoyed using them). One thing I loved – the colors, like with Altenew inks, are grouped together for easy blending. I don’t know how well future colors will blend (and I don’t know if there will be future colors or if there will be re-inkers or replacement nibs), but they do take the guesswork of what colors to use together now.

I cut my colored images out and used a black marker to color the edges of the paper to hide the white. This set comes with a black marker, so I didn’t even have to reach for my Copic black. I also used a white gel pen and drew white dots in the flower centers.

I went with my Perfect Cardmaking formula and used an elegant gold trim, pretty paper – Spicy Yogurt, foam mounted flowers and leaves on top, added a simple Thank You sentiment and finished this card off with a few Rose Gold sequins and clear droplets from Pretty Pink Posh.

Before I go here’s a photo of my initial test doodling/drawing/sketching with these markers. I always appreciate photos like these, so I hope you’ll find it useful too (click to enlarge):

Simon Says Stamp | Love Gives Us a Fairytale

Simon Says Stamp | Heat Embossed Lace

Have you seen Simon’s new cling rubber stamps from the Hey Love release? I fell in love with…

Comments411

  1. Beautiful Card, Yana. I am so excited by these markers as the have a fine tip and a brush tip, something Copics don’t have. I almost never use the chisel tips on Copics so I am very excited to see these.

  2. Love your card it’s so beautiful, the markers look amazing and love the reds on your flowers.

  3. Your card is stunning but your cards always are! I don’t have a Copic collection and I struggle with which colors to use so I think I would love these markers from Altenew. I love the idea of the nib ends, also. I think I need them. Love the lower price, too!

  4. Gorgeous dimension and embellishments! The white dot accents really set the flowers off. These markers look amazing!

  5. Thanks for the analysis! Especially on which cardstock suits these markers and the dos and donts 🙂 lovely card as usual!

  6. Beautiful flowers… And thank you for being super honest about these… I love that you tried a couple of papers. I also have committed to completing my Copic Collection, but would still love to try these out!

  7. Such an Elegant Card! Wow! Can clearly see how well the artist markers blend!
I dont own any alcohol markers but would love to give them a try! Thank you so much for the inspiration and the opportunity to win this generous gift! Would love to win this!

  8. Gorgeous! I never think to add gold unless there’s already something gold or it is monochromatic. This is just lovely!

  9. Such a beautiful card and thank you for sharing your experience with the blending on different card stock. It is good to know that there are different results in the papers that you use and not just the person doing the coloring. Great job.

  10. Your cards are always some of my favorites. The coloring is perfect, and I love the white dots for the stamen.

  11. It’s so beautiful! I love the idea of learning to color with alcohol markers, so I went out on a limb and purchased about 10 Copics. However, I didn’t realize that you should get them grouped together! So, I have 10 random colors that I liked!

    1. I forgot to write that nope i don’t have any alcohol markers as yet. I usually do water coloring with zigs
      cheers
      preety

  12. So excited to see these new alcohol markers! Thank you for describing your experience with the markers. Love your cards!

  13. Thanks for your honest review of the markers. I love how they will take the guesswork out of blending colors. Beautiful card.

  14. Yana, thank you for sharing your beautifully created art with us. I love your style…refreshing…whimsical…and realistic…how you can make them all come together is simply delightful. Again, thank you!

  15. Beautiful flowers Yana. I am thankful for your pictures. It is always helpful when making the decision to purchase. I do love the colors. Thanks for the tips.

  16. Yana you do glam so beautifully!!! Gorgeous card … and I am very new to Copic markers – if asked, I would say the hardest part of choosing colors is that they aren’t grouped light to dark, and the numbering system is next to impossible to understand – well for me, anyway =] This Altenew grouping system, and ink matching idea, is brilliant!
    =]

  17. Beautiful Card Yana, I think these markers are a great addition very well though out and if they come out with more and the refills I think they have a huge Hit. Thanks for your wonderful inspiration

  18. Thanks for your analysis! I have not collected many Copic markers because I was intimidated by the blending of colors, but with the Altenew markers I think I could do it!! Can’t wait to try.

  19. Your card is lovely and the colors are perfect, as well as the coloring. I have some Copic markers on my desk but I would like to try these, sometime.

  20. You did a beautiful job! I don’t have a favorite pen to work with yet because I don’t have any pens! I am new to stamping. But I do need to get some

  21. I love the card – those markers have fabulous color! I don’t have any alcohol markers yet; I usually color with colored pencils. I’d really love to use markers to try some ink blending!

  22. Gorgeous card, love the colours with the pop of gold behind. I was curious as to what your opinion would be of the new markers. They are a great price compared to Copic markers and I like that there is a fine point and brush nib, I never use the wide nib on the Copics.

  23. Yana! Your talent is just absolutely incredible and your creativity knows no bounds! All of your projects have such a wide range in artistic ability and design and I just love seeing your work! This card is stunning!

  24. Your cards always amaze. TFS another beauty and all the wonderful information about an exciting new product!
