It’s STAMPtember! | Altenew Exclusive – Fabulous You

CARD DETAILS

Today is an Altenew collaboration day and there’s a beautiful floral set with good size sentiments done in a classy font combination. This is a large 6×8″ set, so the flower and sentiments are both nice and large. This is a simple layering set – you have an outline image and also coordination solid layers to add color using ink pads. I skipped using those and colored my floral branch with Daniel Smith watercolors.

I started working on this card by stamping flower and later sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black ink onto Arches Hot Pressed watercolor paper. I prefer to use this kind of paper when I need the image details to be perfectly stamped.

I used a wet on wet technique to color my image. This means I loaded my brush with water and first painted the shape I wanted to color with clean clear water. Next, I dropped in the color and allowed the water to move it on my paper. I used 2 brushes – one to add water and one to drop color, but it wasn’t necessary, one brush is more than enough.

I used Daniel Smith Sap Green, Quinacridone Gold and Quinacridone Coral for my coloring. When I got to the petals I added gold closer to the center and coral on the tips of the petals allowing the two colors to mix in the center. This added a lot more interest and color variation to a simple image.

I also used a very light blue – Duochrome Oceanic color to paint around the flower. You can’t see it in the photo as it is very light, but it added a nice touch of color and also a bit of shimmer to my card.

I wanted to add some detail to the flower petals so I used a white gel pen and drew in tiny white dots.

After foam mounting my panel (it was cut to 4 x 5 1/4″) onto an A2 white card base I added some natural twine and embellished the card using Simon’s Caribbean Sunset sequins.
